Even if we were enabled to sell these recovery CDs, our contract with Microsoft would forbid it.
Q5 なぜ旧世代にもEE対応のBIOSとドライバーを提供しないのか。
A5 既に販売終了した旧製品向けにそこまでする会社はない。と、非常に直截的にMatt KohutがInside the Boxのコメントで答えている。

While I understand the general disappointment, remember that we’re in the business to sell new systems and new hardware. Our policy is not unlike any other hardware manufacturer.
I can think of plenty of printer, scanner, and other peripheral companies that won’t give their best and brightest upgrades to their old equipment. Why should they? It just puts customers buying off for yet another year or two. That is lost revenue that is never recaptured.
Even Apple charged for a service pack upgrade. If it were possible to create a program that would “EE” an existing system that couldn’t be decompiled by our competitors, I guess we might sell it. But such a thing doesn’t exist.
Flame me if you want, but we’re not in the charity business here.

The 1.5s BIOS Post time is only on the special "concept car" T400s. It is a heavily tweaked BIOS just to demonstrate the advancements in the technology. I can not confirm when we will release UEFI systems (thus the "in the future" comment) but know that we are working on it now and it is in the upcoming product roadmap. Let me be clear, though, that Calpella platform systems will launch with a legacy BIOS implementation. You can expect, however, EE work from the Montevina Win7 launch systems will carry forward into the Calpella products.
The real speed gain of EE BIOS depends on the system. On average we took our BIOS Post times down from "in the teens" to about 8s (measured from the start of EE work to the release). The biggest single fix we made as part of our EE work however, was about a 2-3s improvement as you indicated. Very good estimate!
This attribute reports the number of reserve blocks remaining. The attribute value begins at 100 (64h), which indicates that the reserved space is 100 percent available. The threshold value for this attribute is 10 percent availability, which indicates that the drive is close to its end of life. Use the Normalized value for this attribute.
thresholdとされている10%まではまだ遠い。
E2、E3、E4が新たに表示されるようになったが、これらの意味は不明。ちなみに、03(Spin Up Time)と04(Start/Stop Count)は常に0なので、とくに意味はない。
